ATLANTA (AP) - Justin Upton, Chris Johnson and Brian McCann homered, Brandon Beachy pitched eight strong innings, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 5-0 Friday night for their 14th straight victory.
The Braves are one victory shy of tying their 2000 team for the longest winning streak since the franchise relocated to Atlanta in 1966.
Beachy (1-0) scattered three hits, allowed one walk and struck out six in eight innings to win his third start back from elbow ligament replacement surgery on June 21, 2012. He made 67 of 99 pitches for strikes.
With only 15 losses at Turner Field, Atlanta improved its home winning percentage to .722, best in the majors.
The Braves were eight games ahead of second-place Washington in the NL East after losing their last game, July 24 at the New York, but now lead the division by 15 1/2 games.
NATIONALS 9, PHILLIES 2
WASHINGTON (AP) - Dan Haren won his third straight winning start while Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman homered to help Washington snap a four-game losing streak by beating Philadelphia.
Haren (7-11) limited the Phillies to two runs and four hits over seven innings for his first career win against Philadelphia in eight starts. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.
John Lannan (3-5) allowed eight runs, nine hits and five walks over five innings. The Phillies have lost seven of their last nine games.
Adam LaRoche snapped a 0-for-16 lifetime skid against Lannan with an RBI double in the fourth. Denard Span's two-run single capped a four-run fifth inning. Bryce Harper added an RBI single.
REDS 7, PADRES 2
CINCINNATI (AP) - Joey Votto drove in a pair of runs with a single and a triple, and Bronson Arroyo recovered from his roughest outing of the season to lead Cincinnati over San Diego.
The Reds have won three straight since getting embarrassed by the St. Louis Cardinals at home last weekend, dropping games by scores of 13-3 and 15-2.
Arroyo (10-9) took the loss in that first game against the Cardinals, giving up seven runs in a season-low 3 2-3 innings. He was back on his game against San Diego, allowing only four hits in seven innings, including Logan Forsythe's solo homer.
Votto drove in the first two runs off Andrew Cashner (8-6), ending the right-hander's streak of three straight wins. Brandon Phillips added a two-run homer off Tim Stauffer.
CUBS 3, CARDINALS 0
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Anthony Rizzo had a two-run single, Chris Rusin pitched around seven hits in six innings, and Chicago recorded its first shutout in St. Louis in 16 years.
Rusin (2-1) twice worked out of bases-loaded jams and only set the Cardinals down in order in the first. He struck out a season-high five and issued two intentional walks.
Kevin Gregg recorded his 24th save to complete the Cubs' first shutout in St. Louis since Jeremi Gonzalez tossed one on June 23, 1997.
Lance Lynn (13-6), attempting to become the National League's first 14-game winner, labored over 6 2-3 innings despite giving up just three hits. He threw 115 pitches and was charged with all three runs. He struck out five, walked five and hit two.
Chicago has won two of three, but only has three wins in its past 12.
ROCKIES 10, PIRATES 1
DENVER (AP) - Wilin Rosario doubled and homered to drive in four runs, leading an offense that batted around in the first and second innings, and Colorado snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Pittsburgh.
Francisco Liriano (12-5) bore the brunt of the Rockies' outburst in his first appearance at hitter-friendly Coors Field, allowing a career-high 10 runs on 12 hits in 2 1-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. With the game out of reach, Pirates infielder Josh Harrison was summoned by manager Clint Hurdle to relieve Jared Hughes and got pinch-hitter Corey Dickerson to fly out to left to close out the eighth.
Jorge De La Rosa (11-6) went five innings, shaking off a blow near his pitching shoulder from Jordy Mercer's comebacker and keeping the Pirates in check by working out of two bases-loaded jams early.
DIAMONDBACKS 5, METS 4
PHOENIX (AP) - Paul Goldschmidt homered to the opposite field with one out in the ninth inning to carrry Arizona past New York.
Goldschmidt's 27th homer, his second game-winner of the year, came off Scott Atchison (2-1) after the Mets had rallied from a two-run deficit.
Brad Ziegler (5-1) pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the win.
The Mets' Marlon Byrd was thrown out at the plate trying for an inside-the-park home run in the second inning.
Patrick Corbin, looking for his 13th win, left with a 4-2 lead after six, but the Mets scored twice off Heath Bell in the eighth to tie it, ending the reliever's string of 11 straight scoreless outings.
INTERLEAGUE
DODGERS 7, RAYS 6
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Reliever Fernando Rodney's throwing error allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Los Angeles an improbable victory over Tampa Bay.
Rodney (4-3) took the loss, allowing four runs - three earned - and four hits while getting just one out.
Ronald Belisaro (5-6) got the victory in relief, helping the Dodgers extend their winning streak to three games.
Jerry Hairston Jr. grounded into a fielder's choice to first base and Adrian Gonzalez scored on Rodney's throwing error. Gonzalez's RBI double tied the game 6-all after Mark Ellis' RBI triple and Nick Punto's RBI double sparked the Dodgers' rally.
ORIOLES 5, GIANTS 2
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Chris Davis hit a two-out, two-run double in the 10th inning to lift Baltimore past San Francisco.
J.J. Hardy homered and Adam Jones had two hits and drove in a run for Baltimore. Matt Wieters also drove in a run.
Jim Johnson (3-7) gave up a game-tying hit to Hunter Pence and then worked out of the jam to gain the victory.
Orioles starter Chris Tillman threw eight stellar innings, striking out a career-high nine, giving up one run on four hits and walked one.
Brandon Belt had two hits, including a home run, for the Giants, who have lost five of seven. Javier Lopez (1-2) allowed all three runs in the 10th to take the loss.
Ryan Vogelsong, who was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list before the game, allowed two runs on six hits over six innings. He walked three and struck out four.
