Roundup snares 23 members of SE Mo. street gang

SIKESTON, Mo. (AP) - Law enforcement agents have arrested 23 members of a Sikeston street gang during a warrant roundup dubbed "Operation Safe Streets."

The Southeast Missourian reports (http://bit.ly/16rxUkI) Sikeston police, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the interim Scott County prosecutor were brought together at the request of Public Safety Director Drew Juden to help fight street gang violence.

Friday's roundup focused on members of the "Brick Squad Monopoly," or BSM. Sikeston police say the request stemmed from two incidents within the past year.

The first was a large street fight in November when shots were fired, and the other was in June when a first-degree burglary and assault left the 35-year-old resident reportedly paralyzed.

Multiple arrests of BSM members were made in both of those incidents.
