Kentucky breaks open softball contest against Missouri

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Wildcats scored in their final three plate appearances and broke open a close game in an 8-2 win over Missouri on Saturday.

After 19th-ranked Kentucky got a run in the bottom of the second, No. 11 Missouri tied it with a tally in the top of the fourth.

But the Wildcats got two in the bottom of the fourth, four more in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 8-1. The Tigers got the game’s final run in the top of the eighth.

RBI singles by Jenna Marston and Mackenzie Sykes accounted for the bulk of the offense for the Tigers, who had just six hits total.

Nicole Hudson (7-4) started and took the loss for Missouri, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits in five innings. She walked one and struck out one. Lindsey Muller allowed an unearned run without a hit in the final inning.

The Tigers (28-9 overall, 12-7 Southeastern Conference) and Wildcats (36-15, 11-9) will play again at noon today.
