Cougars notch split

COLUMBIA - The Columbia College Cougars won the nightcap to split a doubleheader with Missouri Baptist University on Friday.

Columbia College dropped the opener 6-3.

The Cougars took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an RBI single by Kristin Eiken (Blair Oaks High School), but gave up four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to lose.

Eiken and Marli Hayes (Jefferson City High School) had two hits each for the Cougars.

Tiffany Urwiler (School of the Osage High School) took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in a complete-game effort.

Columbia College came back to win the nightcap 13-1 in five innings.

Eiken and Hayes both scored in the first inning as the Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

The lead was 4-0 after two runs in the fourth, and the Cougars ended it with nine runs in the fifth inning. Hayes had a solo home run during that frame.

Hayes ended up with three hits in the victory.

The Cougars are now 17-16 overall and 11-3 in the American Midwest Conference.
