Helias activities director Doug Light was recently honored as the Central District Athletic Director of the Year at the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Adminstrators Association (MIAAA) State Conference.
Light, who is also the head girls basketball coach at Helias, is currently in his 37th year in education, having made stops at five high schools - Union, St. Francis Borgia, Parkway South, Jefferson City and Helias. He began his career as a social studies teacher and has also coached girls basketball, track and football.
Light earned Athletic Director of the Year for the South Central District in 1996 while at Borgia. He also has served on the Missouri State High School Activities Association Appeals committee and as the MIAAA cecretary.
In addition, Light was inducted into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2011.
