Akin likes his election chances

Just a month ago, many of the nation’s Republican leaders — including presidential nominee Mitt Romney — were telling U.S. Rep. Todd Akin he needed to drop out of Missouri’s U.S. Senate race, for the good of the party and its efforts to gain control of the U.S. Senate.

“We’re not hearing much of that, anymore,” Akin told reporters late last week after an hourlong rally at the Capitol.

“What we’re hearing, in county after county, is people saying, ‘We’re on board behind you. We like the idea that you stand up — We want somebody who’s a stand-up guy.’”
