One arrested for tampering with motor vehicles in JC

On Tuesday at 3:06 a.m. a Jefferson City police officer checking the business at Corwin Honda, 3215 Missouri Blvd, interrupted two subjects attempting to steal catalytic converters off vehicles on the back lot.
The suspects fled on foot to a nearby vehicle and fled the scene.
Other officers responding to the area found the suspect vehicle crashed at the intersection of Missouri and S. Country Club.
One suspect was located in some brush nearby, the second suspect escaped.
The suspect that was located was taken to St. Marys Hospital for treatment of an injury from the accident and then to the Cole County Jail to await formal charges.
The suspect that was arrested is Michael A. Rogers, a 54 year old Holts Summit resident.
Charges are being sought on Rogers for tampering with a motor vehicle in the second- degree, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the second suspect was still being sought.
The investigation continues.

I had to look up the converter thing. Why would they want to steal something like that? Is it valueable or used for something else?

They are pretty expensive to replace, worth quite a bit as salvage, and some recycling places buy them without asking too many troublesome questions.

I hope they tazed him a few times. That would feel good compared to what I would do to him if I caught him messing with my vehicle.
