Mo. highway in Callaway Co. renamed to honor AMVETS

State officials and local veterans will gather at 10 a.m. Thursday to designate a portion of Missouri 94 in Callaway County as AMVETS Memorial Highway. The public is invited to the event, which will be on a grassy area next to Lauf Equipment Co. and across from the ABB transformer manufacturing plant on Missouri 94.

Parking for the event will be available on Wehmeyer Drive.

In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Missouri National Guard Armory off St. Mary's Boulevard at 801 Armory Drive in Jefferson City.

Veterans representing each war since World War II will be honored at the event.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - State transportation officials are renaming part of a central Missouri road the AMVETS Memorial Highway.

Part of Missouri Highway 94 in Callaway County is being named after the group AMVETS, which is a volunteer veterans service group that helps others who have served in the military. The organization held fundraisers to pay for the signs.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is holding a ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday.
