PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) - U.S. Women's Open champion Na Yeon Choi was steady after a careless three-putt bogey early in her third round Saturday at the Titleholders and finished with a 3-under 69 to take a one-shot lead into the final round of the LPGA Tour season.
Choi limited her mistakes, even as those around her were dropping shots in a tough wind at TwinEagles.
Ai Miyazato quickly gave up her one-shot lead at the start of the round when a chip rolled back to her feet beyond the par-5 second hole and led to double bogey.
Choi hit a hybrid 5-wood to 15 feet for birdie on the par-3 17th and closed with a two-putt for par to reach 12-under 204. That gave her a one-shot advantage over Miyazato, who made four birdies on the back nine and salvaged a 71. So Yeon Ryu, the LPGA rookie of the year and one of Choi's best friends, ran off four straight birdies on the front nine before cooling off for a 66. She was two behind.
HONG KONG OPEN
HONG KONG (AP) - Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a 2-under 68 for a share of the Hong Kong Open lead with New Zealand's Michael Campbell.
Campbell had a 69 to match the 48-year-old Jimenez, the 2005 and 2008 winner, at 10 under. Italy's Matteo Manassero, coming off a playoff victory in the Singapore Open, was a stroke back along with China's Zhang Lian-wei. Manassero had a 64, and Zhang shot 69 in the event sanctioned by the European and Asian tours.
AUSTRALIAN MASTERS
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Defending champion Ian Poulter shot an 8-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead over Adam Scott after the third round of the Australian Masters.
Poulter, the English player who won the World Golf Championship's HSBC Champions in China two weeks ago, had a 13-under 203 total at Kingston Heath. Scott, from Australia, shot a 67.
SOUTH AFRICAN OPEN
JOHANNESBURG (AP) - Sweden's Henrik Stenson closed in on his first European Tour victory in three years Saturday, shooting a 3-under 69 to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the South African Open.
Stenson had a 16-under 200 total Serengeti Golf & Wildlife Estate. South Africa's George Coetzee and Sweden's Magnus Carlsson were tied for second. Coetzee had a course-record 63, and Carlsson shot 68.
PEBBLE BEACH INVITATIONAL
Robert Streb shot a 3-under 69 in rainy conditions at Del Monte to take a one-stroke lead over Billy Horschel after the third round in the Pebble Beach Invitational.
The 25-year-old Streb had a 10-under 206 total. He won the Web.com Tour's Mylan Classic in September and finished seventh on the tour's money list to earn a PGA Tour card.
Horschel had a 68, also at Del Monte. The final round will be played at Pebble Beach.
