Still no decision on funding for Mo. nuke reactor

FULTON, Mo. (AP) — Ameren Missouri and Westinghouse still want to build a first-of-its kind mini nuclear reactor next to Ameren’s mid-Missouri plant in Callaway County. But a key piece of funding has yet to be approved.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/VHBGxV ) reports that officials are still awaiting word on whether the project will get at least a share of a $452 million federal grant to advance commercialization of next-generation nuclear technology.

The Department of Energy was supposed to announce who would share the grant money a month ago. A spokeswoman says applications are still under review. She didn’t say when a decision would be made.

I reluctantly agree. Nuke is the most dangerous, expensive and complex way to make energy, except, of course, continued use of carbon. Jobs for Missouri like we haven't seen since WWII. I'll go there.

They should assign this to the committee that is investigating to see if the state employees are underpaid. That would get the project moving.
