Rice pledges to try again on tent city

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Rev. Larry Rice is ready to try again to establish a tent camp for homeless people in St. Louis.

Rice and three others were arrested May 16 for refusing to leave a campsite near Interstate 44 where several tents had been set up before the city shut down the site.

On Friday, Rice hosted a news conference, pledging he'll try again for a homeless camp. He called the city action a misuse of power and said he is considering a lawsuit.

Rice wants to establish the tent city in response to the city's removal of homeless encampments near the Mississippi River. City officials closed down the camp sites after reports of violence, and cited rat infestation.
