Longtime Helias coach, history teacher retires

Alex Wilde applauds as people roast her “pawpaw” Mike Jeffries. The longtime history teacher, wrestling and assistant football coach has closed the book on a storied high school teaching and coaching career, calling it quits after 43 years at Helias High School.

After 43 years, today is the last day for Mike Jeffries as a teacher at Helias High School.

“I’ve got a lot I can do,” Jeffries said. “I’ve got my bird dogs, I’ve got my canoes, I’ve got some trips with family and friends planned. If I can find people to do things with, I’ll be busy.”

Many know Jeffries for his accomplishments as a coach.
