Torch passes through capital

A 50-state torch relay stopped at Lewis and Clark Middle School on Monday morning to promote self-esteem and friendship.

The international team will travel four months, celebrating 25 years of running for peace and harmony, through the United States, ending in New York City in August.

The World Harmony Run travels through more than 100 nations around the world to encourage goodwill at the local level.

Since 1987, more than 5 million people have participated, including world figures such as President Nelson Mandela, President Mikhail Gorbachev, Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa.
