MONTREAL (AP) - David Beckham bent in a free kick in the 62nd minute to help the Los Angeles Galaxy tie the Montreal Impact 1-1 on Saturday at Olympic Stadium in front of 60,860 fans - the largest crowd for a professional soccer game in Canada.

There was a mix of boos and cheers each time Beckham played the ball, even when he scored on one of his patented free kicks that curled inside the right post from 23 yards.

Beckham's second goal of the season came 6 minutes after he was shown the yellow card for an elbow to the face of Felipe Martins, which might have been embellished by the Brazilian.

Davy Arnaud scored for Montreal in the second minute.

Los Angeles is 3-5-2, and Montreal is 3-5-3.

DYNAMO 1, D.C. UNITED 0

HOUSTON (AP) - Brad Davis scored in the 67th minute and Houston beat D.C. United in the first game at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Houston played its first seven games on the road as it waited for its $95 million stadium to reach completion. The opener drew a sellout crowd of 22,039, nearly all of them clad in orange. Houston (3-3-2) snapped a five-match winless streak, while D.C. United (5-4-3) lost for the second time in five games.

Minority owner Oscar De La Hoya, former Dynamo President Oliver Luck and former Houston Mayor Bill White were among those introduced before the game. MLS Commissioner Don Garber also attended.

REAL SALT LAKE 1, SOUNDERS 0

SEATTLE (AP) - Fabian Espindola scored in the 51st minute and Real Salt Lake beat Seattle in a showdown for the Western Conference lead.

Salt Lake improved to 8-3-2, dropping Seattle to 7-2-1 and snapping the Sounders' franchise record-tying winning streak at five games in front of a season-high crowd of 39,312 - the third largest in Seattle MLS history. Seattle, coming off three consecutive shutouts, could have moved into first place with a victory.

Espindola scored on a left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner. He returned after missing a 0-0 draw with Chicago on Wednesday night following the birth of his son.

RSL improved to 3-0-2 over the last five matches. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando didn't have to make any saves after missing the game against Chicago because of a shoulder injury.

FIRE 2, SPORTING KANSAS CITY 1

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Sebastian Grazzini and Dominic Oduro scored in the second half to help Chicago beat Sporting Kansas City.

Chicago, fourth in the Eastern Conference, improved to 4-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in its last six game. Eastern Conference-leading Kansas City has lost three straight to drop to 7-3-0.

Oduro broke a tie in the 81st minute with his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Fire tied it on Grazzini's penalty kick into the upper right corner in the 61st minute.

Kansas City opened the scoring on midfielder Bobby Convey's goal exactly 30 minutes into the game.

CREW 2, FC DALLAS 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Sebastian Miranda scored on a long header off corner kick in the 72nd minute in Columbus' comeback victory over FC Dallas.

Justin Meram tied it for the Crew (3-4-2) in the 67th minute, 4 minutes after Dallas' Zach Loyd was sent off for a second yellow card for his tackle on Meram.

Meram struck from 35 yards after teammate Eric Gehrig stole the ball from Matt Hedges. Miranda scored on a sitting, snap header from just outside the penalty area off a cross from Nemanja Vukovic.

Fabian Castillo put Dallas (3-6-3) ahead in the 22nd minute with his first goal of the season.

The Crew snapped a six-game winless streak, while Dallas dropped to 0-3-3 in its last six.

REVOLUTION 4, WHITECAPS 1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Lee Nguyen scored twice, Saer Sene and Shalrie Joseph added goals in New England's victory over Vancouver.

After Eric Hassli opened the scoring for the Whitecaps (5-3-2) in the fifth minute, Nguyen tied it in the sixth minute, Sene scored in the 24th and Joseph in the 33rd for New England (4-6-0).

Nguyen scored his second goal of the game in the 72nd minute, looping a shot from the left side atop the penalty box area following Chris Tierney's throw-in.
