Jays prepare to open district play against Waynesville

Jefferson City hoping for strong pitching performances

Playing in a district that seems to be there for the taking, it didn't take Jefferson City baseball coach Brian Ash long to decide what the key to success will be.

The man on the mound.

"If you've got two good (pitchers), you're pretty well set up," Ash said as the third-seeded Jays prepared to open Class 4 District 10 play at 6:30 p.m. today against the host school at Waynesville.

Helias (18-3) is the top seed and enters the tournament having won 14 of its last 15 games. But after the Crusaders, the rest of the bracket is jumbled.
