At the City Council meeting Monday, council members approved the contract with Jefferson Asphalt Company for the 2012 mill and overlay construction projects.

The council also authorized nearly $200,000 in added funds for the program, which was almost doubled this year to $1 million.

Public Works Director Roger Schwartze said the extra $196,000 comes from the city’s unspent funds on salt after the mild winter. Salt was originally budgeted for $275,000 this year, and the city ‘s stock piles are filled to capacity.
