No charges expected to be filed in Cole Co. accidental shooting

Although the investigation continues into a non-fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night in Cole County, authorities are not expecting to file criminal charges in this case.

Sheriff Greg White said at approximately 11p.m., deputies responded to the Bee Line Snack Shop at the corner of Old Lohman Road and Westview Drive regarding an individual who was reportedly shot in the shoulder which later proved to be his right upper arm.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim had driven himself to Capital Region Medical Center and was later released following treatment.

The investigation revealed the victim and the shooter were playing with loaded .380 caliber handguns.

The shooter and the victim are both 16 years old

The suspect advised that both firearms were stolen from vehicles in Columbia.

White said their investigation concluded “that this was truly an accident.”

It must have been some white boys because the reality of the fact is that yes it may have been an accident but had that been 2 black teenagers there would be charges filed for illegal discharge of a weapon, posession of a stolen firearm....etc!! But since they are not Black there will be no charges filed even after the suspect admitted the gun was stolen out of a car in Columbia!. That is just GREAT POLICE WORK! smdh!

You based your judgement of the sheriff's department's performance on an assumption? Apparently you are not a big fan of facts or truth. Good luck with all that....

The facts are: 1. Two teenagers were in posession of two stolen guns. 2. One teenager shoots another on in the arm! 3. Teenager admits to Law enforcement that guns were stolen from a car in columbia. 4. No charges filed. This equals white boys because 4 wks ago a black teenager had a stolen gun admitted it was stolen; DID NOT SHOOT ANYONE! BUT WAS LOCKED UP FOR POSESSION OF A STOLEN FIREARM!

Can you say with 100% certainty they were not charged / arrested for the possession? The article focuses on the actual shooting and the lack charges; not the possession.

There needs to be better reporting, by investigators and the media, of incidents like these so people can draw conclusions from facts.

I have to agree that normally when a person is caught being in posession of a stolen gun, in this case it was two people who each had a stolen gun, especially when at least one of those stolen guns was discharged in a residential neighborhood....yeah I kinda was expecting to hear that somebody got charged/arrested for something criminal. Posseision of stolen property, unlawfully discharging a fire arm, something.

Now I"m usually a supporter of the Law Dawgs, but on this one I'm not gonna jump out there and defend them until somebody does some explaining.

Until then, Mo4Life has made some very factual points, so don't hate em for that, prove em wrong!

"Until then, Mo4Life has made some very factual points" -- Which one? No charges filed? If so, prove it.

If Cole County doesn't press charges, then Boone County can. But if they stole the guns from gang members in Columbia, jurisdiction problem solved.

unfortunately, its 2012 & still certain laws, and rules aren't meant for others...so i agree with mo4life. think all rules & laws shall equal EACH the same regardless of CREED OR COLOR...
