Sen. McCaskill files for re-election

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill officially started here re-election campaign Friday, becoming the only Democrat in a Missouri Senate contest that has attracted several Republicans.

McCaskill, who was first elected in 2006, was in Jefferson City Friday to file for this year’s elections. Missouri’s candidate filing period ends Tuesday. Three prominent Republicans — former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, of Rolla; U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, of suburban St. Louis; and St. Louis businessman John Brunner— already have entered the U.S. Senate race. They are competing in a six-person GOP primary in August for the right to take on McCaskill.

“I don’t know who the Republican Party will nominate, but I think Missourians will have a very clear contrast in terms of priorities,” McCaskill said Friday.

McCaskill, who previously served as a state lawmaker, prosecutor and auditor, was one of the first sitting senators to endorse President Barack Obama in 2008 and supported the federal health care overhaul that was signed into law two years ago.

The three best known Republican candidates said during a debate last month that they support repealing the health care law.

McCaskill said she doubts people who favor repealing that law realize the popularity of some portions such as allowing children to remain on their parents health insurance plans longer and phasing out a gap in prescription drug coverage in Medicare.

And how many of us lost all of our coverage because we are diabetic or have a "pre-existing" condition like it? You ignorant liberal! I moved to another state because of this woman because I can neither find work or healthcare coverage in Missouri, a state that has been home to my family for eight generations! I hope you like your new Amerika!

She has made Missouri more of a welfare state dependent on the government and you think that is good?

0

clingingredneck 1 year, 1 month ago

Well, first off get my gender right. clingingredneck.blogspot.com Secondly, I agree. She has made Missouri more of a welfare state, I ended up moving to Tennessee because there are no tech jobs in Missouri anymore. Also, here I might be able to get a full time position that allows me to have some healthcare, which she and her liberal progressive socialist friends took away when they pushed Obamacare onto the American people. She and Obama have trampled on the constitution and any other person would have been impeached long ago. Want to see where our country is headed if we follow McCaskill and her Ilk? Watch Atlas Shrugged!

That is the problem with Republicans they are quick to judge and shoot down everything Obama does but they have NO suggestions as to what he should do. I don't care for everything that Obama has done but I have to say he has atleast tried to get something done with this Health Care situation, it is out of control and something needed to be done, and he tried which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for what other presidents have done in the past.

"That is the problem with Republicans they are quick to judge and shoot down everything Obama does but they have NO suggestions as to what he should do. " -- Au contraire, you apparently have not heard of Paul Ryan. Moreover, the Republicans are the only side offering a budget.

Here's a thought, something we have said all along if you will open your ears and hear, TORTE REFORM? The problem with having all these lawyers in congress is they don't want to cut into their billable hours. The reason healthcare is where it's at today is because of all the frivolous lawsuits over hangnails! Undergo Torte Reform and drop the cost of providing healthcare to the insurance companies. Then the rate drops and the premiums drop. But that would be capitalism and would make sense. So naturally we can't do that!

Here's another idea. You want a new law? Make a Common Sense law. Have a panel of 9 judges review questionable cases. If it isn't common sense, then you can proceed. If it's something stupid that common sense would have told you "ah, don't do that" then you can go suck an egg. No more hangnail cases. How's that for two ideas.

Maybe clinging redneck needs to look back at Matt Blunt, and the legislator that he was rubber stamping when he was Govenor. Rob

Have you looked at McCaskills voting record? Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

How is forcing everyone to buy healthcare good? How is the 2000+ pages of healthcare legislation good? Policians say vote on it and read it later good? Bottom line the current Senator from mo will have to find another line of work. Sad thing is she will be doing better than most of us.

0

wcywing 1 year, 1 month ago

the 2000 plus page monstrosity is not the answer. btw insured Missourians should not pay for deadbeats.

0

tonto_goldberg 1 year, 1 month ago

It's not that complicated. Insured Missourians have paid for deadbeats since at least 1965. Your hospital bill and the Medicare system get to share in the "unpaid care" cost for every hospital in the state. In addition, some of your Missouri tax dollars go to the University of Missouri Hospital System to pay for charity care since it is the designated charity hospital for the state.

0

JCLifer 1 year, 1 month ago

Don't forget, we are also working very hard to pay for 7 million deadbeats on welfare too. Time to get another job to pay for the higher cost of Obamacare that is going to break the back of this country. Can't work any harder? Too bad. You have a job, now get another one. Pay your taxes and shut your mouth. 7 million are counting on you- gas is getting expensive for their Cadillacs.

I traveled to Chattanooga recently and what I found impressive was the construction of new schools, downtown, roads, etc...All thanks to a business friendly climate which convinced VW to build their newest plant there. TN is the only state I would consider living in east of the Mississippi.

0

asb 1 year, 1 month ago

Jobs? really? In Jan 11, Tn had 9.5% unemployment. As of January 12 it had fallen to 8.2 a sparkling 1.3% drop. In the meantime Mo went from 9% to 7.5% a mere 1.5% drop. Missouri's auto wages are higher also. Nothing wrong with Tennesee mind you, but do you really think it's more conservative than Missouri? Get real.

0

clingingredneck 1 year, 1 month ago

Your using the government numbers again. Tennessee is filled with high paying tech jobs. Missouri is filled with low paying hamburger flipping. We just added 800 jobs at the new VW plant here. And yes I do think this part of Tennessee is more conservative. People aren't afraid to display their feelings about our current state on their cars for fear of getting keyed or fired for expressing their opinions. So you stay there in Missouri, I'll stay here and enjoy my newfound freedom of expression.

Missouri has become a #50 bottom-feeder state and we are proud to be cheapskate losers.

I spent weeks reading the Bill before it was shoved down our throats, the majority of Missourians didn't want it, went to a "town hall" meeting, where the majority of Missourians with very loud voices told her they didn't want it. If the federal government can force us to buy this product, then they can tell us to do anything and that should be taken seriously. I urge everyone to read the law, it's a hard read because you have to keep refering back to the tax code, Constitution, Bill or Rights and especially the Commerce Clause and the history of the Commerce Clause. The Senator is not interested in what Missourians are concerned about, she's only for herself and her Party. As for keeping adult children on your insurance, unless they have a disability or in are school, they should have to pay for their own insurance. As someone with a pre-existing condition, I've never had difficulty obtaining insurance. Under this new law, premiums have continued to rise and we are looking at the fact that the company may end the insurance plans and pay the fines.

Several friends and I wrote to McCaskil and all got the same canned reply which had nothing to do with our comment, but was a statement about why Obamacare was good for us. By the way, they have now embraced the term Obamacare, where it was previously disdained.

Then, when the healthcare industry profiteers tied up with the tea party and started the spin about death panels, yes, many Americans now think it's the end of days. National Health Care will require a universal user contribution. This is a tax by any other name. The thing is, I already pay it when I pay for the non-insureds' health care, at the highest (ER) rate around. Nearly $1,000 per year more than if everybody who could pay did so. Hey, I just paid a bit on Dick Cheney's heart transplant, and I know he's got insurance. (Talk about the curse of not being allowed to earmark your taxes!) Claire may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, or the most innovative senator in our state's history, but supporting National Health Care was a no-brainer. She may get the boot for it in the short term, but after all the lies are counted, she'll be remembered well for supporting it. Mandated purchase? Sure. I'm also mandated to buy submarines, teachers, railroads, airports, embassies, food for foriegners, heck kids taxes are mandatory, and they're used to buy many things each of us find abhorrent. We all buy healthcare sooner or later. Managing it in advance will save money over the decades. Will it be perfect? Duh! Will it be one of the largest and most excruciating bureaucracies EVER. Yep, right up there with the military, Department's of Education/Transportation/Obsfucation and others. Is it legal? The Supreme Court will say yes. Do we need it? Congress thought so once, maybe they'll change their mind. I won't.

0

clingingredneck 1 year, 1 month ago

asb, you're hopeless. You've drunk too much of the koolaide. Why don't you move to Britain and Cue up for your doctors visit six months in advance of when you'll be sick. How about we quit paying for some of this junk? How about we don't pay for the railroads and airports? They should be private industry. If you can't make it work you go belly up like every other business in the county. How about I quit paying for illegal immigrants healthcare? How about I quit paying for their food and school? I'm trying to put my own son through college and he is a legal citizen. His tuition is twice as much as the illegals! In Missouri! That's what we want, that's what we are fighting for. He keeps this junk up we will be fighting more literally than you libs are prepared for.

I just don't understand why you say anything was..ahem... "shoved down your throat." I realize that's what the talk show hosts say and you have to imitate them, but...

Obama DID campaign that he would reform health care. A strong majority voted for him. Nothing was shoved anywhere. People voted for it.

0

JCLifer 1 year, 1 month ago

And now 26 states are passing laws to fight it, and folks who voted for it are now changing their minds after they find out what was in it.

Obamacare is toast. It is getting repealed. The medicine is worse than the illness.

An open microphone caught Obama saying "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility" to which the person said, "I will let Vladamir know". Does this all sound Kosher you you all?

0

asb 1 year, 1 month ago

So, you've found the Breitbart truth site . . . where Obama's plan to sell his daughters on the Russian version of Ebay (with a finder's fee going to Putin) after he steals the election has been uncovered. My favorite is that Obama actually supports religious propery tax exemptions, until he's got his cut of the mandatory sale of America's churches to the Islamic hoards for use as mosques and jihadist traing centers for the takeover of America and the subjegation of its christian citizens, which is, like, everybody, right? You do know your ID is mispelled . . . well the French would spell it thataway, but surely you're not part of the French plot to buy back the Louisian Purchase for $35 from Obama . . . or ARE you . . .

'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America,..." Ahhhhh, that's better. Or how about this, ..."Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me," Wright said. "I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office."

Allow me to put my comment in layman's terms. asb mocked the idea that Mr. Obama is muslim, I illustrated / mocked the idea that Mr. Obama being "Christian" isn't that flattering either, Mr. Obama get's a free pass when it comes to religion and his so called plea for civility. If you believe 20 years of these Christian sermons don't play into Mr. Obama's ideology or policy, there is no arguing with you.

0

asb 1 year, 1 month ago

I didn't mock the idea that Obama is Muslim, he isn't. I mocked a dufus that uses a fancy intellectual looking moniker to spout untrue Jerry Springer grade tripe; that tripe being that Obama is a muslim. So now Spelchecque helps the dufus out by using Jerry Springer Wright's foolish words as if they were Obama's, all to call Obama a (bad) Christian. Then (and this really grits my gravy) Rick Brown delete's the dufus retort to my mock, offered in the best playground style - so now it looks like I'm meowing myself . . . purrrrrr!

0

spelchek 1 year, 1 month ago

Mr. Obama walked away from his church only after the sound bites became public. He spent 20 years listening to Wright and at the last minute he abandoned his church for political expediency. In regards to Wright's comments about "them Jews"...Mr. Obama is guilty by association. Mr. Obama listened to an anti-Semite for many years which leaves him (in my opinion) a lack luster Christian.

I don't know what site you are looking at asb, but it has to be a lib spin on Breitbart. Last I saw it was talking about Obama staring in a play proclaiming his support of Saul Alinsky in the play Love Song of Saul Alinsky. Or perhaps it was the statements from Eric Holder proclaiming that we need to brainwash people against guns. Hmm, nothing about selling daughters or giving churches to Islamic Imam's. Where do you get your info? Obviously not from the source.

"There’s no good result for the Obama administration: if the Supreme Court decides that the individual mandate is not a tax then a large portion of the administration’s existing arguments goes away, thus increasing the likelihood of a humiliating disposal (at least in part) of the one thing that Obama has managed to do domestically in four years. But if the mandate is a tax, then Obama gets to face a plethora of attack ads in the fall which will (accurately) portraying him as a shameless serial liar who used the looming Obamacare legislation to sneak in a stealth tax on the American middle class."

The Obama administration is now referring to Obamacare as a “bi-partisan bill” and calling the unpopular individual mandate “a Republican idea,” following three days of tough questioning by the Supreme Court. “The Affordable Care Act is a bipartisan plan and one that we think is constitutional,” Deputy White House press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Wednesday afternoon.
