Holts Summit offers shelter reminder

Following the recent severe weather that brought numerous deadly tornados to the Midwest, the city of Holts Summit wants to remind the public their storm shelter is available if needed.

Located adjacent to City Hall at 245 South Summit Drive, the shelter is open every time a tornado warning is issued for the region.

The shelter is available to anyone in the Holts Summit area, not just residents of the city. The entrance to the storm shelter is located on the east side of the building.

"Because of our proximity to the state capital, thousands of vehicles travel up and down U.S. 54 each day," said Holts Summit Police Officer Marc Haycock. "Anyone traveling through the area who wants to seek shelter from a storm during a tornado warning is welcome at the shelter."

City Administrator Brian Crane said animals of any kind are prohibited inside the shelter.
