The Reds ended their season-high losing streak at four games.

Cueto (9-3) allowed three hits and fanned a season-high nine while improving to 4-0 in four June starts. Two relievers finished a combined three-hitter.

Thome connected off Jake McGee (2-2) for home run No. 609, tying Sammy Sosa for seventh place on baseball's career list.

Tampa Bay's Jeff Keppinger was 5 for 5 with three RBIs in his first game after he missed 29 because of a broken toe.

BLUE JAYS 7, MARLINS 1

MIAMI (AP) - Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the ninth and Colby Rasmus had a grand slam later in the inning, and Toronto handed the Marlins their sixth straight loss.

Encarnacion led off the ninth with his 21st home run off Steve Cishek (4-1) to break a 1-all tie.

After Jeff Mathis laid down a bunt that Cishek mishandled allowing Reed Johnson to score for a 3-1 lead, Rasmus connected on his third career grand slam off Edward Mujica.

Before Colorado's four-run third against Colby Lewis (6-6), the Rangers hadn't even allowed more than three runs in a game during their winning streak. Wil Nieves and Dexter Fowler - the Nos. 8 and 9 batters - homered on consecutive pitches in the fifth off reliever Michael Kirkman for three more runs and an 11-1 lead.

McCutchen continued a torrid pace with his 13th homer. He came into the game with 14 hits in his previous 25 at-bats.

Santana (4-8) was charged with three runs - two earned - and four hits over eight innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks. The right-hander, coming off a one-hit shutout against Arizona, retired 21 of his last 24 batters.

The Dodgers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first with the help of throwing errors by first baseman Albert Pujols and third baseman Maicer Izturis.

BOSTON (AP) - Will Middlebrooks had a solo homer among his three hits and drove in two runs, Franklin Morales gave Boston another decent start as the fill-in for Josh Beckett and the Red Sox beat Atlanta.

Dustin Pedroia added three hits, a walk and had two RBIs for Boston, which won for the eighth time in 10 games to ensure a winning interleague record for the eighth straight season.

Morales (1-1) gave up three runs - two earned - on seven hits, striking out eight and walking one. He took Beckett's turn in the rotation after the right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation.

Riding the long ball again, the Yankees won for the fourth time in five Subway Series matchups this season.

Daniel Murphy, who hasn't homered all season, nearly won this one for the Mets in the ninth inning. With a runner aboard, he hit a deep drive into the right-field corner that was caught just in front of the fence for the final out.

Clay Rapada (2-0) fanned Nieuwenhuis with two on in the sixth for the win.

Jesse Crain (2-1) earned the win. Jose Veras took the loss (3-3).

GIANTS 9, ATHELTICS 8

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Brandon Belt hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, Buster Posey added a two-run drive in the seventh, and San Francisco backed Madison Bumgarner's fourth straight win with just enough offense to hold off Oakland.

A night after the Giants rallied in the ninth inning to win 5-4 in the opener of the second Bay Bridge Series between the Bay Area rivals, Oakland nearly paid them back after trailing 9-4 to start the ninth.

Clay Hensley - the 12th pitcher of the game and San Francisco's fourth of the inning - ended the 4-hour, 15-minute game for his second save in three chances. There were 385 pitches thrown.

Bumgarner (9-4) was shaky early and allowed a season-high 11 hits. He is unbeaten in five starts since a loss at Miami on May 26.

Josh Reddick hit a two-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the second, then Jonny Gomes added a solo shot to start the third. Oakland's rally fell just short in the ninth despite a 15-hit night.

MARINERS 5, PADRES 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Felix Hernandez pitched seven impressive innings and hit a two-run double to lead Seattle over San Diego.

Hernandez (5-5) turned in his second strong outing, limiting the Padres to one run and six hits. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked one. His only blemish was a balk that brought home San Diego's only run in the first inning.

Hernandez's two-out, two-run double in the second capped a three-run inning in which all the runs were unearned due to second baseman Logan Forsythe's error.

Michael Saunders hit a solo homer for Seattle, which has belted eight home runs and scored 32 runs in the first five games of its road trip. The Padres, who had 11 hits in Friday night's 9-5 win, were held in check by Hernandez, who won for the first time since May 21 against Texas.

San Diego's Jason Marquis (1-3) allowed five runs - two earned - and six hits in seven innings.
