Your Opinion: Trade pact would endanger economy

Dear Editor:

Since the 1930s our government had safety clauses in foreign trade agreements mostly when buying products from foreign countries. It was okay to buy made-in-America products even if they were slightly more expensive. This wasn't always what happened, but we had in place the opportunity to keep our tax dollars within our own country supporting our own economy. Now fast forward in time.

Present day, President Obama's administration is working on a little known trade agreement, called TransPacific Partnership. Within the wording of this trade agreement, our administration is planning on eliminating the wording that helps protect our economy, manufacturing, and keeping our tax dollars at home as much as possible.

Recently the House sent a letter to President Obama stating that the terminology being used in this trade agreement would effectively ban made in America products. Remember the House has a majority of Democrats in place and even they don't think this is a good move.

Holy Jezebel America, wake up. We need to protect our economy as much as possible. We need to stop giving away our economy. We used to be selfsufficient as a country. No longer is that the case.

Even within our agricultural production we are dependent on foreign needs for our fertilizer crop needs. Phosphate comes from Canada. Nitrogen is shipped in from foreign sources. Without these necessary fertilizers, our crop production will suffer severely. That will in turn create a lot of hungry people. That's just an example of our dependency of foreign supplies. We have the greatest power in the world, and that is our ability to feed the people of the world. It is a fine balancing act to interact with foreign countries to buy from and ship to.

President Obama is looking to give preferential status to certain foreign countries and remove our own preferential status. This would in turn push large sums of our tax money to foreign countries. This would in turn strengthen their economies and their industries.
