Jurors convicts man of fatally shooting landlord

STELLA, Mo. (AP) - A McDonald County jury has found a Stella man guilty of killing his landlord a year ago and recommended he receive at least 13 years in prison.

The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/O6PHFa) reports 61-year-old Danny K. Thomas was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in the death of 58-year-old Darrell Bone of Rocky Comfort last July. Jurors on Friday recommended a 13-year sentence, plus a three-year term for armed criminal action.

Thomas was convicted of shooting Bone once in the back and twice in the face with a rifle after the landlord came to Thomas' home to talk to him about moving out.

Thomas had claimed he shot Bone because he thought the landlord was going back to his truck to get a weapon.
