Mo. Gov. Nixon begins running ads for re-election

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon isn’t waiting until the primary elections are over to start broadcasting his re-election message.
Nixon’s campaign said Tuesday that it has begun running a statewide TV ad. The minute-long spot features Nixon talking from his home town of De Soto and sharing fond memories of his parents. He also describes how Democrats and Republicans have worked together in Missouri to balance the budget and cut taxes. Nixon’s ad also says that “we’re getting folks back to work.”
The Democratic governor faces no significant opposition in the Aug. 7 primary, which features a more competitive race on the Republican side.
Nixon aired ads before the 2008 gubernatorial primary — another race in which he faced no significant opposition but for which there was a competitive Republican primary.
