JC police investigate Monday robbery report

A robber near Capital Mall who was chased by his victim escaped Monday night as shots were fired.

Police are looking for the man who fled with companions from the Red Lobster parking lot in a dark-colored SUV, traveling eastbound on Country Club Drive.

Police received a call about 8 p.m. Monday near Capital Mall. Initial reports stated a man was seen chasing another man from Wendy's toward Red Lobster.

When police arrived, they located the victim, who said he had been robbed by a white male behind Wendy's. After the robbery, the victim began to chase the robber toward Red Lobster.

The victim said he jumped in front of a passing motorist, asking for help. The man drove him to Red Lobster where they found the man with several other people. The driver told the victim to get out of the car, that he wanted no part of the situation.

As the driver was leaving, between two and four shots were fired. At least one round went through the driver's tire, flattening it. No one was reported to be hurt during the gunfire.

The group, including the suspect, left the area.

The incident is under investigation by Jefferson City police detectives, who are asking anyone with information to contact them at 634-6400 or anonymously via CrimeStoppers at 659-TIPS.
