Meeting gathers input for county zoning process
Thursday, July 19, 2012
In perhaps a little more than a year, Cole County could join 30 other counties in the state which have county zoning.
A public meeting was held Wednesday evening to explain the process of getting county zoning. About 30 people showed up at the Cole County Fire Protection District Station on Monticello Road to hear from the planning group the county commission hired to get a proposal together.
“The first draft won’t be the final plan,” Mark White of White & Smith, LLC of Kansas City, told the group.

Alright, y'all. Check it out. There are meetings going on. Here's your chance to get involved in a democratic, public process. Don't wait until the county makes a decision to get on here and be all "socialism derp a derp tyranny durr de durr shoving it down out throats."
Ah, who am I kidding?
I'd like to see the zoning process result in designated higher-density "growth areas" connected to the city center with transit, to help preserve the county's farmland and open space.
