LEGO party spurs kids’ creativity

The clattering of plastic filled the basement at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Monday morning as more than 55 children searched for pieces to build LEGO block creations.

Sometimes builders would trade a special piece for another. Mostly, they searched blue bins of blocks in varying sizes, shapes and colors.

Lauren Holsapple, 8, started with the idea of building a carriage. But as she sought out wheels, she discovered a chef and changed her mind.

“I’m building a kitchen,” Lauren said.

Her sister Rachel, 10, built a haunted house with candles and snakes and misplaced items, such as the shovel and barrel, she said.

“I like the little pieces,” Rachel said.
