BALTIMORE (AP) - Taylor Teagarden ended his first game with the Baltimore Orioles in stunning fashion, hitting a two-run homer in the 13th inning that sealed an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
In a crazy, back-and-forth duel that lasted 4 hours, 43 minutes, Baltimore scored three runs in the 13th to secure its 10th straight extra-inning win and snap Detroit's six-game winning streak.
The Orioles got a run in the 11th after the Tigers scored in the top half, then rallied again in the 13th after Quintin Berry put Detroit ahead 6-5 with a two-out RBI single.
In the bottom half, J.J. Hardy ended an 0-for-28 skid with a tying solo homer off Joaquin Benoit (1-2). After Adam Jones was hit by a pitch with two outs, Teagarden homered over the right-field wall.
Teagarden was activated from the 60-day disabled list before the game after missing the entire season with a strained back. He entered after starting catcher Matt Wieters left for a pinch runner in the 10th.
Kevin Gregg (3-2) got the last out in the 13th to get the win.
RAYS 5, RED SOX 3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - David Price outpitched Clay Buchholz and the Tampa Bay Rays scored twice in the seventh inning without getting a hit to rally past Boston.
Price (12-4) allowed three runs and six hits in 7 1-3 innings to become the first 12-game winner in the American League. The All-Star left-hander walked two and struck out eight to move ahead of Matt Harrison for the AL wins lead.
Joel Peralta got the final two outs of the eighth for the Rays. All-Star Fernando Rodney worked the ninth for his 26th save in 27 opportunities.
Buchholz (8-3) pitched well in his first start in more than three weeks, taking a 3-2 lead into the seventh before walking the first batter of inning and hitting the next. Hideki Matsui was walked intentionally to load the bases with one out, and the Rays pulled even when pinch-hitter Jose Lobaton drew a walk from Matt Albers.
Elliot Johnson's sacrifice fly gave Tampa Bay a 4-3 lead, and B.J. Upton's solo homer off Andrew Miller provided a two-run cushion in the eighth.
ROYALS 6, WHITE SOX 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Alcides Escobar hit a pair of homers off Jake Peavy, the second a go-ahead shot with two outs in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat Chicago.
The 25-year-old shortstop had just two homers all season and 11 in his career before he connected for a two-run shot off Chicago's All-Star right-hander in the third inning.
White Sox slugger Adam Dunn homered and Dayan Viciedo hit an RBI triple in the sixth to tie it at 3, but Escobar connected again against Peavy (7-6).
Greg Holland (3-2) won in relief. Jonathan Broxton rebounded from a blown save the previous night to retire the White Sox in order for his 22nd save of the season.
BLUE JAYS 11, INDIANS 9
TORONTO (AP) - Edwin Encarnacion hit two home runs, Yunel Escobar also went deep and the Toronto Blue Jays used an eight-run third inning to beat Cleveland.
Encarnacion and Escobar both hit two-run shots in Toronto's highest-scoring inning of the season. The Blue Jays had eight hits in the inning, six of them for extra bases.
Shelley Duncan, Michael Brantley and Casey Kotchman homered for the Indians.
The home runs were the 24th and 25th of the season for Encarnacion, who signed a three-year, $29 million contract over the All-Star break.
Aaron Laffey (1-1) worked five innings for the first victory. Casey Janssen got the final four outs for his 13th save in 14 chances.
Ubaldo Jimenez (8-8) matched a career high by allowing eight earned runs and was chased after just 2 1-3 innings.
YANKEES 5, ANGELS 3
NEW YORK (AP) - Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson each hit two-run homers off Jerome Williams, leading the New York Yankees over the Angels.
Freddy Garcia (4-2) and three relievers kept Mark Trumbo in the ballpark, denying him a homer in a record sixth straight game against the Yankees.
Cano's two-out drive in the first against Williams (6-6) hit off the top of the wall in left-center and bounced into the Angels' bullpen and made it 2-all. Cano's 21st homer gave him a 17-game hitting streak.
Granderson connected for his 24th home run with one out in the third.
Cody Eppley, David Robertson and Rafael Soriano combined for four innings of two-hit ball. Soriano worked a perfect ninth and notch his 22nd save in 23 chances.
ATHLETICS 9, TWINS 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Chris Carter and Yoenis Cespedes each homered and drove in three runs, powering the Oakland Athletics past Minnesota.
Seth Smith and Brandon Moss also homered to beat Cole De Vries (2-2) and back Tommy Milone (9-6). The A's won for the eighth time in nine games to move two games above the .500 mark for the first time in two months.
The ball was flying all over Target Field, and the A's outhomered the Twins 4-2 on this steamy night. They've gone deep at least once in 19 of their last 20 games and have crept into the wild-card race by winning 23 of their last 36.
Minnesota had 14 hits and every starter had at least one, but still lost its fourth in a row.
