Post 5 goes 1-1 in Illinois tournament

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors split a pair of games Sunday in the Southwest Illinois Firecracker Wood Bat Tournament.

The local club opened the day with a 3-0 win over Fairview Heights (Ill.), scoring all of its runs in the top of the seventh.

Post 5 then dropped a 1-0 decision to Champaign (Ill.). The only run of the game came in the fourth inning on a dropped third strike.

The Seniors, who won their pool in the event, now advance to today’s single-elimination, four-team tournament.
