According to the probable cause statement, Koebel — who lived with his grandparents — had a dispute with his grandmother, Karen K. Cates, 60, on the morning of Jan. 20.

“Koebel reported ... that in the course of the dispute he stabbed her two times,” the probable cause statement reads. “Koebel reported that he then located the .38 caliber handgun and then shot his grandmother several times.”
