Pre-kindergarten literacy is latest step in JC school strategy

For several years, the Jefferson City's public schools have taken a directed interest in literacy at the elementary level.

At the board of education regular meeting Tuesday, Kathy Foster, director of elementary education, and Myron Graber, director of secondary education, discussed the successes and the challenges of a comprehensive literacy process.

"No one program or assessment works," Foster said.

Instead, the elementary curriculum has cultivated several proven strategies, Foster said.
