Mo. man gets 28 years in death of 3-year-old

TROY, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for causing the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Douglas Rivette of Troy was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Demetrius Washington Jr., admitting to kicking the child in the stomach so hard that he fell backward into a door.

Demetrius was the son of Rivette's girlfriend.
