Conference center timeline set for site selection, design
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
The city has set a time table for selection of a conference center site.
At the Jefferson City Council meeting Tuesday, city administrator Nathan Nickolaus said the city has sent out requests for proposals with a deadline of Jan. 31. Further studies will be undertaken after proposals are received, with the hope of selecting a site by June 30.
Last year, the city heard a presentation comparing two possible sites for a potential conference center, the old Missouri State Penitentiary and the 200 block of West McCarty, both of which are currently state-owned.
Nickolaus said as long as the council makes a selection by June 30, the design phase should begin July 1.

This is a sucker's game. Conference centers are overbuilt, and fewer institutions are holding out-of-town conferences. This is NEVER GOING TO MAKE ANY MONEY.
These consultants tell the city everyting about this project EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT IT IS A BAD IDEA.
Stop before it is too late. Use the money for something else.

If the city didn't waste all the stimulus money it received from the federal government the last two years, they could have already built several very nice convention centers.
According to the federal government web site Recovery.gov, the City of Jefferson has already received $316,001,268 in ARRA funds.
Wonder what happened to all that money? Wonder how many jobs were created?

The fund amounts you are quoting are for the entirety of zip codes 65101 and 65109. Are you claiming these were funds received by the Jefferson City city government? If so, that's not what the site indicates.

I just clicked on the link for Jefferson City and that is what it said.
If this information is incorrect, do you know the total stimulus funds that the City received and where they went?

No, I don't. I do know ARRA funds (like most federal funds) came with very specific strings attached.

Building and feeding this elephant is going to take away from repairing our crumbling streets, sidewalks and other infrastructure. Not gonna be able to build as many roundabouts. Anybody seen our ambulance tax money?

Projects like these will need knowledgeable guidance, and strong leadership. I am an open ear to anyone in the city, and also a candidate for the Ward 1 council seat. We need new, fresh views in our city and on our city council. Please visit my website for contact information. Thanks, Tyler
