Your Opinion: Another tax plan being conjured

Dear Editor:

As I mentioned in an earlier letter, the Chamber of Commerce sales tax isn't the last sales tax increase facing tax payers in Jefferson City.

Right on cue, a downtown group has plans for another half-cent sales tax increase for a downtown "festival district" on all sales made in the downtown area. They were hoping to keep this quiet until after the chamber's Feb. 7 election but fortunately some one let the cat out of the bag a little early.

This new sales tax will not have a 10-year sunset provision, so that you can pay it forever. Oh, and state employees will get hit with this new half-cent sales tax every time they eat or made a purchase downtown.

If you don't turn out to vote no Feb. 7, new sales taxes will continue to pop up like zombies out of a grave yard on Halloween. Use your vote to kill them at the voting booth. Vote no Feb. 7.
