JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon wants Missouri lawmakers to pass ethics legislation after the state Supreme Court rejected the most recent law because of how it was approved.
Nixon said Friday there now is a significant gap in in Missouri's ethics policies. He says the Legislature should quickly restore the law's provisions. Nixon also wants limits placed on how much can be donated to campaigns and a ban on legislators working as political consultants for colleagues.
Many lawmakers have opposed campaign finance limits in the past.
The state high court's ruling invalidated a requirement to publicly report contributions of more than $500 within 48 hours when the Legislature is in session. It also had banned certain committee-to-committee money transfers and allowed the Ethics Commission to investigate without first receiving complaints.
