ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis-area cancer doctor with offices in southwestern Illinois has pleaded guilty in Missouri to a federal misdemeanor linked to his alleged giving of misbranded, unapproved chemotherapy drugs from overseas to his patients.
The U.S. Attorney's office said 61-year-old Dr. Abid Nisar of Town and Country pleaded guilty Thursday in St. Louis to introducing misbranded prescription drugs into interstate commerce.
He admits he did not tell his patients the source of the drugs he bought for more than $352,000, then sought Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.
Prosecutors allege Nisar got the drugs from a marketing business employed by James Newcomb and Sandra Behe of La Jolla, Calif.
Calls to Newcomb's home went unanswered Thursday, and online court records don't list an attorney for him. A message was left for Behe at her home.
