Couple charged in robbery

A Jefferson City man and his girlfriend were charged Monday with first-degree robbery after confessing to robbing Radio Shack on Missouri Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.

Thomas L. Lewis, 25, and Sarah B. Record, 26, remain in the Cole County Jail on $5,000 bond on the Class A felony charge.

According to the police probable cause statement, they entered Radio Shack separately about 4:42 p.m. Lewis left, then returned five minutes later wearing a mask and hood.

Lewis grabbed Record around the neck from behind, holding a knife to her side and demanding the clerk give him all the money in the store.

The clerk complied, and Lewis fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash and a PlayStation 3. A Cole County deputy observed him in the 1000 block of Buena Vista Street and arrested him.

When authorities were holding him at his residence, Record approached officers and identified herself as Lewis' girlfriend who lives with him at the address.

A search warrant at the address led to the discovery of the stolen money, the clothes worn by Lewis during the robbery and the PS3 console.

Both confessed to the robbery, police said.
