Your Opinion: Don't restrict right to self defense

Dear Editor:

The only action dumber than bringing a knife to a gun fight is bringing helpless hands and fantasy delusions to a gun fight. If you don't know when the gun fight is going to happen being prepared is essential for survival. Being prepared means having a gun and despite protests to the contrary one person with situational awareness and a derringer could have nailed the Sandy Hook shooter.

Every gun-free zone is a magnet for crazy people with guns. Like tap dancing in a minefield the inevitable is going to happen. The only people who are surprised by the Sandy Hook death and destruction are clueless as somebody that believes Social Security payments are reserved in a special account for future use.

Concealed carry laws need to be loosened so schools and state government buildings are not off limits to people with concealed carry permits. The Texas capital allows valid concealed carry permit holders in with just a check of the permit carriers ID. The non-permit holders are run through a metal detector but not the permit holders. The law enforcement types sort of assume the permit holders are carrying.

The U.S. Constitution allows every individual to be stupid. So many people avail themselves of the stupidity right it has to be in the Constitution. As long as the stupid person only affects themselves I don't care; however, when stupid people pass laws to make everybody defenseless and helpless then I don't tolerate their stupidity. It is quite irritating that people with armed bodyguards in government service are the first people to roar for more gun control.

The right to self defense is one of the natural laws that should never be legislated away. The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms; i.e. to own and carry firearms etc., is in the Constitution so the people can fight a tyrannical government that is no longer accountable to the people.

Reality in small and large scale matters frighten many people. Babies are born with only two fears, the fear of loud noises and falling. Every other fear is a learned behavior. It is a duty of any citizen to unlearn any useless fearful behavior so the citizen is something other than a helpless herd animal.
