Your Opinion: Marxist Leninists back gun control

Dear Editor:

I knew it would only be a matter of time until the Marxist Leninists would come out and again try and take guns out of law abiding citizen’s hands. I kind of thought that at least they might wait until the funerals were over, but I was wrong.

The first funeral has not even started and the usual suspects want to eliminate high capacity magazines and “assault rifles.” With their same logic (sic), we should outlaw cars since there were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. The financial cost of these crashes is more than $230 billion; 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States, one death every 13 minutes. By the way approximately half of these deaths are alcohol related. You won’t hear much about banning cars or alcohol, will you?

If these “enlightened” individuals really want to do something that would help why don’t they wait until all the facts about this case are known? Reason, they don’t need facts to continue their push to remove guns from lawful individuals.

Have you ever stopped to think about why it’s mostly liberals and Democrats who argue so strongly for gun control and against our Second Amendment rights? Clearly the idea that a person has the right to own a gun for self defense is one more often held by those on the right than the left, and the idea that gun ownership ought to be severely restricted, or even banned, finds its home on the left.

There is a basic divide between liberal and conservative thought. Conservatives largely believe in individual responsibility; whether it’s the responsibility for raising and educating your own children, or the responsibility of providing for your own basic needs, including security and the security of your family. Liberals, on the other hand, are always all too eager to hand those responsibilities off to the government. I can’t feed my children, or myself, where’s my food stamps? I can’t pay my rent, where’s my check? I can’t heat my home, where’s my heating assistance check? I can’t find a job, where’s my unemployment check?

It won’t be too much longer that our Marxist Leninist president will make a move to somehow get your gun. Thanks to all the bone heads who didn’t vote or voted for Obama.
