Your Opinion: Response to Todd on Medicaid

Dear Editor:

This letter is in response to Philip Todd's letter "Don't expand Medicaid."

First of all, it's called "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" not Obamacare.

Secondly, Prop. C was only about the portion of the act that would have penalized anyone who did not purchase their own health insurance or choose a plan from the insurance exchange. Missourians did not "reject" the entire act.

Wouldn't you rather have any insurance exchange be under the control of your own state, or by the federal government? One of them is going to manage it eventually. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have it here at home where maybe, just maybe, citizens could have some kind of say and locals would be employed to run the thing.

Medicaid may not be perfect, far from it, but it's better than being uninsured. Let's try an experiment. Gather those 300,000 uninsured Missourians into an arena, the Rams Stadium for example, and see what happens when you tell those people that they can't have health insurance after all.

I hope you have good insurance!
