‘Move Over’ law expanding its scope

Beginning Tuesday, the 2002 “Slow Down and Move Over” law, which requires drivers to move over for emergency vehicles, will also apply for Missouri Department of Transportation vehicles parked with amber and white flashing lights.

New signs will remind motorists to slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency or maintenance vehicles parked on the shoulder.

Is government creating a state full of citizens that lack common sense? So much a lack that the laws and institutions that failed these people to the point of running over state employees now need more laws to fix the problem they apparently created in the first place? I received better instructions from my family more than any HS coach that unwilling taught drivers ed ever could.

The government is responsible for bad driving? Who knew. Well that's easy to fix, get rid of the government, and there'll be no more bad drivers.

What an unthoughtful, broad, and blanketed statement. Do you have a license to drive? Who did you have to get it from? Did you have to pass a written test and a driving test? If so, who administered the test? Did you take drivers ed? If so, who sponsored it and under who's authority? Who made the laws we have to abide by on MO roads? Only you mentioned getting rid of government (which is what I expected). Your failure to see the bigger picture is the problem, not my opinion.

The law may have been passed because driver's were exhibiting common sense and running over highway workers and slamming into their trucks and other equipment. It's hard to miss hitting a road grader, dump truck and pothole crew when you are driving 60 mph and texting or yacking on the cell phone about nothing. About 20 minutes ago I witnessed about 20 drivers ignore an ambulance with lights and sirens on. (I turned off on a side street and got the h--- out of the way.) They just continued to doodle on down the road and finally trapped the ambulance in five lanes of traffic at a stop sign. Severe lack of common sense and perhaps hearing.

I saw the same thing happen with a police car. I was the only one that pulled over. My first thought was...What a bunch of dumb sh--s not to mention the danger involved.
