Your Opinion: Not inspired by grizzly analogy

Dear Editor:

A grizzly bear fighting to protect her cubs - an inspiring idea until you remember that grizzly bears are an endangered species. Without the human brain's ability to plan into the future and realize consequences for not only ourselves but also for others, the grizzly would already be extinct. It took us a while to figure that out, but we did.

Mankind is blessed with the ability to take others' plight into consideration while planning our actions. Isn't that the kind of politicians we want debating and deciding our laws? Those who can understand the long-term consequences of their actions on the lives of others, not just a knee-jerk, animal instinct reaction to do what benefits only themselves and their immediate family? It seems like we have enough of that kind already. I want politicians who can work for a better world for all. Compromise is not a dirty word.
