A proposal in the city budget to cut more than $400,000 from the transit system subsidy will be discussed Thursday with an opportunity for public comments.

Mayor Eric Struemph’s proposed FY2013 budget includes cutting $418,708 from the subsidy given to the city transit system. That could mean the elimination of the system’s tripper routes, which run once a day throughout the school year and serve Jefferson City High School, St. Peter’s School, Helias High School, Immaculate Conception School and the Simonsen 9th Grade Center.

Instead of cutting public transit and other services that poor and working people depend on, , how about cutting the Chamber and Convention and Business Bureau contract? Cut the lobbyists contracts, cut the consultants contracts. Cut some of the cars for city employees. Cut some of the Parks money. Cut out buying brand new vehicles for 4or 5 years.
