Thursday, August 2, 2012
A Jefferson City man faces possible drug and weapons charges after shooting at police this morning.
Police Capt. Bob Cynova said in a news release that Albert W. Miller, 32, 1104-A E. McCarty St., was arrested shortly after 4:40 a.m. Thursday, after SWAT team officers served a search warrant for drugs at his apartment.
“No officers were hit by the gunfire or injured in any manner,” Cynova reported.
He said the shots were fired at the officers as they entered the apartment “and as they we announcing loudly and repeatedly” that they were police officers.
As soon as Miller was taken into custody, the release said, officers recovered the semi-automatic handgun that was used to shoot at the officers, as well as a small amount of heroin and a larger amount of crack cocaine.
Miller was being held in the Cole County Jail.
Police are asking that he be charged with: First-degree assault of law enforcement officer; armed criminal action; being a felon in possession of a firearm; being a prior offender in possession of crack cocaine with the intent to sell it; and being a persistent offender in possession of heroin.
