Organizers drop plans for Tiger Town activities

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Plans for big celebrations in downtown Columbia during two Southeastern Conference football games this fall have been canceled.

Organizers of the Tiger Town celebrations said they didn't have enough money to put on the fan-friendly events before Missouri's Sept. 8 game with Georgia and Oct. 13 game against Alabama.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/OBS7JW ) Tiger Town was planned to match similar fan events in other SEC college towns. This will be Missouri's first year in the SEC.

One of the organizers, Greg Steinhoff, said several hundred thousand dollars was needed to offer the events. He says organizers spent too much time planning the celebrations and didn't leave enough time to raise money.

Steinhoff said organizers hope to plan Tiger Town events next football season.
