Your Opinion: Protect taxpayers from lawmakers

Dear Editor:

Nowadays, hasn't the human race - in this case, we Americans - given any thought to the fact that not only do we need protection from ourselves, but that if anyone needs protection, it is the lowly taxpayer who pays the price in the form of government bodies by way of those who roam the halls of Congress, state legislative chambers, lawyers representatives of political organizations and city/town bigwigs?

Security should not be provided and paid for by citizens but we should be protected from the powers that be.

It is doubtful these groups need worry about their lives being on the line but we should be concerned (and worried) about our future.

Those individuals elected should have the interests of the taxpayer at heart and not for their hefty salaries and journeys outside this country on what they describe at "fact-finding" trips.

And with regard to legislators, we know they don't get too much accomplished in the way of taking care of bills to be passed or defeated as they wouldn't be having special sessions where they rack up more money for themselves.

People on fixed incomes can't see extra money like this rolling in to help themselves.

These people sitting at their nice desks with computers at their beck and call should do more work in their sessions with less bickering among themselves and in-house fighting and quit squandering the taxpayers hard-earned money.
