Experts: Turn former lake into stream

The Cole County Commission again heard on Monday that the former Renns Lake should be made into a stream.

Commissioners agreed to hold a meeting with Renns Lake residents on the matter.

After commissioners agreed in February to look at grants for funding a nearly $364,000 plan to make the area into a public lake, they had directed contractor Spectrum Consulting to talk with agencies such as the state Natural Resources department and the federal Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers about the possibilities of grants to fund the work.

On Monday, the consultants said that if the commission would rebuild the dam and make the area a lake again, the Corps of Engineers could strictly regulate it.
