After leading the Lincoln women’s basketball team to one of its best seasons ever, culminating in the first postseason victory in program history, Blue Tiger coach Katie Vaughn is leaving to become the women’s basketball coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
After notifying Lincoln athletic director Betty Kemna and her team of the decision Thursday, Vaughn was introduced as UMSL’s coach Friday morning in St. Louis.
“I feel like it’s a better opportunity for my career,” Vaughn said. “The GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) is a very winnable conference. It’s about even talent-wise, but scholarship and budget-wise it’s a step up. Career-wise I think it will be a better job.”
Vaughn compiled a 29-52 record in three seasons at Lincoln, including a 15-13 record in the 2011-12 season. The 15 wins tied the school record for most victories in a season.
