Council funds to be used for Old Town marketing
Thursday, April 19, 2012
Promoting the improvement of the Old Town area will be easier with $10,000 appropriated by the Jefferson City Council for this fiscal year.
The Old Town Revitalization Company on Wednesday approved a marketing budget for the next six months.
The goals are to increase name recognition and promote awareness of incentives for Old Town properties.

Tax money to advertise for private business -- BS! Let the business owners fund their own marketing.

Agree. Tax dollars should benefit all citizens, not just the elite property owners and realtors. This whole project should be funded with private investor funds only. Of course no private investor is gonna touch this risky no-win stuff- they cannot afford to throw their own money away as easily as the city hall can throw away other peoples' money.

Advertising for old, out-of-date, run down area? The entire midwest is full of "old town". No wonder young people dont want to stay or locate here. We should be promoting new, young, fresh ideas. Why waste tax dollars promoting old stuff that no one wants? Does anyone ever use their head around here?

These dollars will be used to market the Old Town incentives for the entire area.
Glad to see an organization focusing on an area which contains much of our heritage.

Our heritage isn't all that great. Why keep clinging to the "good ol days" (that were only good for the elite) instead of moving toward the future?
This town deserves better than continual rejoicing in the ghosts of the past. Let's get some modernization going around here! Compare JCHS with the new high schools in Sedalia, Camdenton, Columbia, Lee's Summit, etc. etc etc. and you will see that our future doesn't look much better than our past.

We are very fortunate to have such a rich history--and there is money to be made today from that history. Based on the investments made in the downtown area recently, property owners and local entrepreneurs are beginning to understand that fact.
The article is about Old Town, not the High School. But as far as the local public high school goes, city-data.com rates high schools on a 100=best scale. The results:

hmmm...
JCHS did not make this list again this year: dese.mo.gov/news/2012/gold-star-schools.htm

Nor did any of the schools originally cited with new facilities. New facilities does not excellence make. That being said, I believe the JCPS system's leadership understands the need to adapt new ideas and provide more options to students.

Just returned from a wonderful 3 days/nights at the Isle of Capri in Boonville. We ended up spending as much in town at the local shops and restaurants as we actually did in the casino.
You should see the beautiful new firehouse Boonville has built....and I would wager that their school infrastructure is in much better condition also.
I wonder how much revenue Jefferson City loses every year to Boonville because of the closed minded elites who led the fear mongering??
At least JC doesn't have that nasty casino causing increased poverty, and gun/drug activity here in our safe little burg.....LOL

Those thousand jobs averaging around $30k each are not all they are cracked up to be. Let Boonville have them. We have payday loan places, a bike bridge, and old town.

Not only that, we have the Capitol Mall, a big new jail, and a whole bunch of McDonald's restaurants. Exciting!
