ELSBERRY, Mo. (AP) — Just over 50 years ago, John Brown was wounded in action while fighting in the Korean War. Now, finally, he is getting his Purple Heart.
Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri says Brown, of the eastern Missouri town of Elsberry, contacted her office in the spring to request assistance. McCaskill’s office contacted the Army Review Boards Agency. The medal was approved in April, setting the stage for a formal ceremony Friday in Elsberry.
Brown is 81. He served in the Army 2nd Infantry Division as a corporal. He is married and both of his daughters serve in the Air Force.
