Local churches plan 9/11 commemorations

Many Americans may have a desire to gather with others on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Local churches are opening their doors wide in the morning and hosting afternoon events to create times for reflection, gratitude and remembrance.

Calvary Baptist Church will honor firefighters, along with other emergency response personnel at 10:45 a.m. worship services, including a music special sung by a Jefferson City firefighter.

Bible Baptist Church continues its long-standing tradition of serving a free steak dinner to military and emergency response personnel and their spouses after a 10:30 a.m. worship service recognition.

And two cooperative efforts Sunday afternoon are a testament to the greater sense of community cultivated in the aftermath of the tragedy a decade ago.

Table of Grace Church, with the help of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, will host 9/11 Walks from 1-2 p.m. at Memorial Park; it is open to all people.
